Sponsoring Groups
Non-profit groups - such as the VFW, American Legion, AMVETS, Veteran's Affairs Committee, Historical Society, Revitalization Committee, Chamber of Commerce, Local Government
Local government must allow their public works department to hang the banners on the poles they own and contact the utility companies for permission to hang the banners on the poles that the utility companies own. Some utility companies require a diagram of the bracket used to display the banners along with the local government's insurance policy number. Banners are most commonly hung before Memorial Day and taken down after Veterans Day.
Registration Scanning Stations
Banner Registration Scanning Stations are normally in a Municipal Building, the Sponsor's location (when public access is available), or at a retail outlet where walk-ins are encouraged as a traffic builder.
The Banner Registration Scanning Station should:
- Be opened during regularly scheduled hours,
- Have a person on site to accept the application, picture and check made out to the sponsoring group.
- Have a computer with internet access.
- Have a scanner to scan the picture that has the capability to upload the picture and information to the community's website, similar to uploading a photo to Facebook.
- Detailed information will be provided on how to complete the process quickly and efficiently. Once the information is uploaded to us, we'll begin the banner draft.
Banner Development
When the application and picture are processed, we receive an automatic alert letting us know a new application has been uploaded. We then begin to prepare the information for the banner draft by:
- Restoring and enhancing the pictures for print, removing cracks, finger prints, tears, stains, other people
- Format banner for public display
- Index the historical record of the individual to search engines for easy internet access to their Military background and genealogy searches
- Sending an email to the sponsor and family
- Once confirmation is received and any needed corrections are made, the banner goes to print.
- The banners are shipped to the sponsor's location along with an invoice where payment is due upon receipt.
